    If you look here : http://www.np.edu.sg/alpha/nbk/umouse/Ning3.html you will see the details of Ng Beng Kiat’s line follower. He gives the emitters as QEC113 and the detectors are TSL262. The aim with the emitters (I think) is to illuminate an area probably about as wide as the line but no more. That way you get a peak from the sensor pair over the line and, by looking at adjacent sensor pairs, it is not too hard to determine the position quite accurately.
